Chapter 5 Game & Solution

Tonight's game is a little tricky
Your task is to guide the Christiane I through the reefs using the ships radar to guide you.

(the game panel has some faint overlays)

Game Instructions.

Reaching your destination :thanks flavien for the screen

Thanks to Opium32 for this full map
Click "Reveal" to see the full map

Hopefully this will help you on your quest, Good luck :)

Update:
As speculated by Nicolemm05 & posted by mbevis who inverted and tweaked the map image.
Sonyas face has been seen in previous games, Is this yet another example ?

What do you think ?

Thanks to Felipe "Viper" for this video showing the game in action

Am I crazy or is there a smiling face in there?

I bet it's Sonya

Yeah, it totally looks like a face!

does anyone else find it weird that your goal is to navigate a reef... and you start from the middle of one? how did they even manage to get there?

Danilo said...

You are F***ing great! Tkx for the map!

I've managed cutting the way through the one below the shown in the map. A lot more difficult... But, as you say, a very funny game. ;)

Also I've noticed that there are 2 activities (instead of 1 on the previous chapters) on this chapter, and I bet a polar bear teeth it's going to be an ultra-mega-super difficult one!

Tks for being there!

Unknown said...

I feel like a dumb ***. I am missing something very big. I can only go around in a circle??? I am supposed to be using the left/right keys on my keyboard, right?

Anonymous said...

The reef map IS Sonya's face!

I inverted and tweaked the image and have sent it to ODI, DarkUFO, and Paula, so hopefully one of them will post it.

SpOOky (Mark) said...

Jennifer: the ship moves forward by default you turn it left or right to stear using your arrow keys on your keyboard :)

helohe said...

Wow its great, they navigated throu that really strange reef to get to that start position and while they did that they crossed the target anyway but its more fun to do it the complicated way.

Spooky, I just sent you a copy of the reef face as well.

How did u do this map? It's great!

Anonymous said...

I must be stupid because when I push the left and right arrows, it just speeds me up going along the outside of the radar in a circle.

Anonymous said...

I know this is lame, because you have to be a Myspace member to view it, but here is a link to the picture of Sonya in the reef.

sinfuldraconis - you are the green dot in the middle. the one on the outside is the place where you are trying to go. it speeds up because you are rotating around it... it took me a while, too.

Does anyone else find it odd that with the Christane I at sea over the Sunda Trench, the second deepest trench in the Indian Ocean, that they suddenly have to navigate a series of shallow reefs. Could this have any meaning?

AfflictedMuse said...

I find it REALLY odd or just plain sloppy. The minute I saw I was in the middle of a reef with no explainable way of how I got here without going back the way I came highly suspect. I would have assumed it was some wacky electromagnetism thing, but since something DOES happen when you hit the reef, I don't know.

Nicolemm05 speculated hours ago on a blog below that it might be a face in the reef!! Give the girl the credit she deserves!!! I sure didnt see it!

aww thanks dr. candle :) that was very nice of you to do that

and great job to mbevis for doing the dirty work :)

i'm just proud to now have my name forever mentioned as someone who contributed to this crazy game that's become my life :P

What if you don't have the dot in the middle to move ???????????????????

Yannick-Sker said...

If you find it difficult, try to zoom-in (right click on the game): it worked for me, i could at least finish that crappy game!

Anonymous said...

Well, first off, starting you in the middle of a reaf, it is a game, they did that on purpose so you wouldn't just turn around and aimlessly drive around with no solution to the game. It is a way to force you to take the path to the coordinates. Just sometimes you have to remember, it isn't real life, its a game, created by humans that know humans are going to play it. Not everyone is seaworthy, noted by the number of people that had trouble knowing how to navigate a sonar map even after the instructions were posted. So any help to at least get you in the right direction is something a programmer would put. Not to mention, it is how they embeded that reef as a face.

Миљан Давид Танић said...

Omg... I didn't like this one... without the map here I would have NEVER found my way out... and besides, I didn't get the radar at first - never understood them... but BOY... that last part is so small to pass through...
And what do you guys think? Did we find the Black Rock? :) I think we found our plane...

Taterific said...

I take it no one else has had the problem where the arrow keys didn't work. Its like I'm playing the game without an engine on my boat.

Pru's Corner said...

hmm...no dot? i kept expecting another blinking dot like the one that marks the coordinates... but the sonar in the middle that's creating the reef images that dot is the one that will be moving. it was a totally tricky game this time. takes a while just to orient to what you're supposed to do. sorry if that didn't help.

Taterific said...

I know how to read the sonar, thats not a problem. I can't get anything to move.

I press the up arrow, nothing, I fail.

I press the up and right arrows, nothing, I fail.

I press, the up and left arrows, nothing, I fail.

I press no arrows, nothing, I fail.

All of these failures are in approximately 5 seconds, but I take it since no one has posted this yet, that people aren't having the same trouble with it that I'm having.

Anonymous said...

taterific, you don't need to press the up arrow, you move forward by yourself

Adam said...

easy way to do it... imagine the middle of the radar, that center dot, is your boat. You see the faint, straight lines extending outward from it? The line that extends north from the center dot is your path. In between passes of the radar sweep, when the reef lights up, make sure that line is lined up with the deep water. This way, you can plan your moves ahead of time. Just give the left and right arrows little taps to correct your path. I only pressed the up arrow once or twice.

Remember, the top of your radar screen is ALWAYS the front of your boat.

mas13 said...

Anyone else find is strange that Radar cannot see reefs underwater as suggested in this game? Radar can only see things above water (land, ships, sometimes weather) Perhaps they meant to indicate this was Sonar? I'm inclined to think this is just a mistake, but could it have significance?

Anonymous said...

Who still needs support for how to navigate through the reef perhaps like to go here:
http://sawyer840.blogspot.com/2008/01/solution-for-navigation.html

HBhannahbrown said...

I didn't use the up arrow at all, I don't even see why they put it there at all. Why would you need to go fast in crazy reefs like that? But the thing I found most crazy was that the boat turned 360 on a dime! And the turning response was nuts! It was more like driving a car really.

Taterific said...

Unless the reef is moving at the same speed as the boat, I don't move at all.

When you first start does it already have a collsion detected warning up?

Anonymous said...

Wow. That took way to long. Thanks Collective Hunch. I hadn't looked at it that way until I read your comment.

Anonymous said...

Took 4 attempts, whole thing kept crashing on me, vv frustrating. Must be a busy site at the mo.

Unknown said...

guys i really don't get this one at all . . .i feel like a moron

Verónica Villa Agudelo said...

Eacop, it took me a long time to figure it out too, but Yannick-Sker's comment about zooming in the image, really helped my understanding of the game... zoom it and then you can see how the dot in the centre moves... then with the map posted here, it gets simpler to follow the path... it's tricky but entertaining...

bernsteinzab said...

I'm having the same problem as taterific. Nothing moves no matter which keys I hit (except the radar beam), and after about 5 seconds the failure video plays.

Taterific said...

Misery loves company. Thanks smartguy for making me not feel like I was the only one.

I watched the video of the navigation being completed and I'm right, my boat isn't moving, or at least it's not being shown as moving therefore I can't beat it.

Anonymous said...

Take note that the green dot in the center is you and the green dot on the outside is where you're going. Many have made this mistake saying the arrows don't move the boat at all. Good Luck!

Taterific said...

I must not be explaining myself well.

When the sonar is scanning and showing where the reef is, each time it goes around it should change position since the boat in the center is moving. However the sonar scan approximately two and a half revolutions before I fail, and each scan reveals the reef at the exact same location as the previous time.

That's how I'm coming to my conclusion that my boat isn't moving. What I think is happening is the boat is moving but somehow its not being shown so without know where the boat or the reef, it is impossible to navigate.

Wow. This game took me like 50 tries, haha. I had everything down except for the last part, I just couldn't get that fatty dot through that tiny little spot D:!

zap800 said...

That was a neat game! Very difficult last turn. That last turn took me 4 tries to go through. Just keep plugging away at it people. Everyone will get through it I am sure

HoursOfNeed said...

same here >_> took me an hour to figure out what to do, and another hour (so far) to pass that thingy.. I just hope I'll make it before the season premiere aargh!

Something is fishey (maybe someone will catch the pun?).
So folks. A primer:
- Radar works in air, does not work in water
- Radar often has a "sweep"
- Sonar works in water, works short range in air
- Sonar virtually never has a "sweep"

So - WTF is going on. Are the reefs sticking out of the water?? In the deepest part of the Sundra Trench?

Sure - EMF (Electro-Magnetic-Frequency) anomalies would mess with Radar - but when you fail, you obviously hit something.

Do we write it off as The Writers and their Tech gurus not knowing their stuff? I'm not even a mariner and I know this.

Anonymous said...

been thru the sonar/radar discussion in the chat room. Many think that it's intentional and means something. I disagree. What would radar instead of sonar be implying? I think the lost nerds just got somoething wrong. we will know soon enough considering they fix most of their mistakes, ie timelines et al.

bernsteinzab said...

Seems like it's just you and me, taterific. Which is kind of weird.

J said...

I'll laugh when the display in the game is changed to read "RASTER SCAN SONAR" (easy fix - still not how sonar works), rather than re-do the whole game with maybe a strobe rather than a sweep (hard fix).

Then again, voice mail in real life doesn't magically transfer from one phone (cell) to another (sat), either. (Still not fixed or explained)

and is it just me, or is Talbot trying to give Sam subtle hints/clues? Maybe Talbot is really good, but just cannot reveal that to everyone else. ... or... maybe he's just a bad actor....

I thought I was crazy when saw a face on the full map. It looks like a 'sloth', check it at wikipedia to have an idea of what I'm talking about then tell for yourself if it's not very similar.

I hated this game! I took me me about 25 tries.

verovilla77,

Thanks so much for your comment, zooming in really did help me understand and beat the game (and you were so nice about it too :-)

But it definitely took me a while . . . TWO DAYS LEFT HERE GUYS!!

TakesaVillage said...

Thank You,Thank,You Thank You.

I probably would have given up if it were not for your video.I wasn't even moving, just drifting around at sea. The video showed how to move my ship and I was underway at last.

Taterific said...

Finally I got it to work. I had to download a different internet browser to do it, but I got it on my first try.

@Smartguy

I downloaded firefox and it worked on there. I'd recommend trying that if you still haven't gotten it to work.

Unknown said...

Oh my goodness that made me MAJORLY dizzy. And as far as the starting off in the middle of the reef thing is concerned, this is one thing I'm not about to read a deeper significance into. As much as even the slightest discrepancies on LOST usually are meaningful, this is just a game and wasn't necessarily overseen directly by the writers.
