That must have taken some seriuos time to search for. How did you come across that?

So i t appears that the "snake" image just happens to be a water mark on all the images on that site.

where did he found it? was that compass created by find815's crew or not?
anyway, seems that in the one with "the maxweel group" snake's head is a little bit different.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but has anybody noticed that in the degrees of the compass it says 75º where it should say 60º?

He found it on a stock image website, not done directly for the game, and it looks like they didnt even purchase the rights to use it since it still has the watermark on it.

Yep, it certainly looks like the "snake", reversed E/W, and mysterious 75 are just artifacts from the source. How disappointing.

how do we know it came from a stock image site?

well, if you notice snake's head is different from the source.. or am I wrong?

I think the cheap people behind the ARG tried to remove the watermark.
Unsuccesfully, but why is the head different?

look near the "SW". The original is a "simple line", the Maxwell'S has something different (like an eye, an arrow..)

HOPE SOMEONE WILL POST THIS AS A BLOG'S ENTRY... East and West are reversed because this is an "astronomical compass": in astronomical maps E and W are reversed (but don't ask me why). So I think that the "snake" is nothing more than the "path" of something in the sky (the sun? the earth? constellations? moon? zodiac?). Anyway, hope I'll find answers for the 60/75 degrees.

the artist who designed the compass on the image stock site has other compass designs that have the reversed e and w and also the no. 75.

So if it becomes part of the arg the writers had to end up using what was originally on the clipart and its not customized to the game.

BTW, the "snake" is the logo for the stock image site.

If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, you need an inverted compass because the stars' positions are inverted.

Yeh the "Snake is just the logo of the site the compass is from.
All the pictures on the site have it.

Isn't the "snake" also the Oceanic's logo?

Sorry if this is a stupid comment...
