Kristian Birkeland

The small picture at the bottom of the Aurora Australis Webpage is of Kristian Birkeland and his magnetized terrella experiment, which led him to surmise that charged particles interacting with the Earth's magnetic field, were the cause of the aurora.

Hoodlum isn't being very creative with these web page pictures lol, it seems like 1/2 of them are from wikipedia. :/

they just seem to be looting wikipedia

oh well - it's a convenient place to hunt for info

lol seems like all the info everyone has researched and posted on here is also from wikipedia :P

More from wikipedia: Kristian Birkeland "organized several expeditions to Norway's high-latitude regions where he established a network of observatories under the auroral regions to collect magnetic field data."

Listening station/Camp Millar connection?

c'mon with enough time and wiki pages we could make a game like this.....seems the answer to every clue they give is on wiki....

Who wouldnt use Wiki, its the most awesome source for information nowadays, and the system is just plain simple, only cause we found the picture doesnt neccesariliy mean we found the Answer, we only found information that might lead us to get the whole picture. On the other hand its kind of an educational game, i never wouldve imagined id end up reding so much about Electromagnetism, Auroras or people like Maxwell, Faraday a.s.o. (Yes i use the lins on wiki and i love it ^^), oh and most pics on wiki are with Creative Commons, so you can use them for free if you dont take em out of context, seems like Hoodlum is going to have a big-ass staff party with all the left over Budget they saved on free pictures ;)

People seem to be focused on Kristian Birkeland (Kristian = Christiane I = Christian Shepherd) so far, but what really got my attention here was the "Terrella" experiment.

I mean, isn't that what the DHARMA Initiative was trying to do in the Island? A "simulation" of Earth - just not only about electomagnetism, but also for meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology, and utopian societies - with the objective of changing the Valenzetti equation.

This is just a crazy theory down here, but maybe this clue is about what the is the main purpose of the Christiane I... finding the Island, the largest "Terrella" experiment ever made. Given that the Hanso Foundation is behind the DHARMA Initiative, and Widmore Corporation has a collaborative/competitive relatioship with Hanso, it could be possible that Widmore discovered things about the Island that Hanso was hiding, and sent the Christiane I to find out about them... How this connect with Sam, and the Maxwell emails, I don't really know...

But how about that for a Theory?

With regard to the usage of Wikipedia, have people consider that maybe most of the stuff what has been used for find815 might have actually been put there by the ARG designers?

Wikipedia is an open, collaborative thing with a life of its own. People can edit entries and what is entered will stay until someone else challenges or changes it. It's quite possible that the majority of the find815 content was put there by them because it is such an easy source of information and is usually one of the first hits to come up on search engine results.

Just a thought...

Not sure if anyone noticed this ( or many have) but on the Maxwell Group page there seems to be a very faint green swirl beneath the compass logo. ( I only noticed it b/c I happened to glance at my screen from an extreme angle) Looks lots like the green aurora swirl on the Aurora Australis web page.

veruca...that is the watermark, but it hasn't been visible before. I think you have a find!

Sorry, but it's been there since the site was found. If you use the search feature you can find the discussion thread.
