UPDATE: Anyone noticed that the key on Sam's desk resembles perfectly the key to Oscar Talbot's briefcase???
Original post:
This has been bugging me for quite a while now, so i'll post it here for you all to comment on it..
Sam is carrying a key since the game began! It wasn't on his desk at home but we packed it in his bag and he has it aboard the Christiane I with him... and apparently he ain't carrying anything that requires a key.
So my question is: What do you think that key will open??

yeah i thought that as soon as i played the game on abc where you pack his bag. one of the items was a key and i thought, where the heck is the key and what is it for?
maybe he was posted the key and we will find out in time what for...
Maybe his appartement?
when i try to log into the 815 site, i just get a blank white screen????
wtf?
oh-looks like a safety deposit box key to me
...when i'm ready for a long journey i take the key of my house with me...
Davy jones locker
maybe its locke's..............
Yeah, the site is not workingnow. I haven't got to do the Chapter 2 stuff yet, so I just tried to go....it's just a blank screen.
kinda irritating
for those of you saying its the key for his apartment or you would leave the house with your keys if you were him blah blah....you guys live in the 21st century right? i mean i know my keys dont look like that...
and i don't think his flat keys would be put in the game like that lol
that key as a purpose!
*and the site as been up and down all day, maybe it'll come back around again*
the key to my LOST heart.
The Orchid Station
its not a very extrange key, but gets interesting when contrasting with the other stuff (all technology last generation). I think that its locking something that Sam really wants to protect. Maybe its something hidden in his desk or somewhere in his appartment, and he take the key with him for security.
site is working for me...two new emails and a new website have been added....
I only get a white screen
I think it does look like a desk key or maybe a safe deposit box key. That is surely not a door key. The question remains as to how this "widget" will play an interactive part of the ARG. It would seem too convenient for him to happen appon something that interacts with a key that he personally posessed from the get go. That is to say unless the key was given to him by Sonya at one point, and it may come into play later after he finds something. I dont know...
Well..my boyfriend pointed out a picture found in the most recent LOST official magazine, issue #14, in an article by Damon Lindelof. There is a picture of a key with the dharma logo and a attached to the key is a dog tag with his name then Pearl Station and under that appears to be a telephone number...the first few numbers are not easy to see...but the last four are '2342'...hmmmm...this sequence is found over and over again in the strange email with all the numbers. Not sure if this is relevant BUT...the Pearl Station was one of the clues in Sam's bedroom.
This key could be the "company property" that Oceanic Air was asking him to return prior to his final paycheck being released to which Sam replied "I have returned all company property"...just a thought.
That is very interesting. I would be curious to see if that played out. Good stuff.
here is a picture of a key with the dharma logo
Fail-safe key?
I don't think they're the same key. The one on his desk has a much bigger head and skinnier barrel.
I thought the failsafe kay was silver no?
Anyway, it may be the case that the ARG designers had already drawn one key and didn't see the need to come up with another one for this task.
Figure this out and you will be rewarded

it opens nothing
I think JNJ above is right. It doesn't look lie the other key if you really look like it. Different shape and barrel, but I'm willing to bet it's the 'company property' that Oceanic's so eager to get back.
I Dont really know if anyones posted this yet but....in the episode "The Man from Talahasee" the kid who came to see Lockes last name was Talbot. He was a multi-millionaire. So....I dont know if anyones mentioned this or not and im too damn lazy to look around these large posts hahaha
